William H. West's Obituary
Funeral services for William H. West, 88, of Prairieville, Louisiana will be held Thursday, August 25, 2016, at 1 pm at the Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Leesville, with Rev. William Hudson and Rev. Morris Goins officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 25, 2016, from 10 am until time of service at the funeral home.
William, the son of Dick and Edna Andrews West was born on February 13, 1928, in Hornbeck, Louisiana. He passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2016, in Prairieville, Louisiana.
Mr. West graduated from Leesville High School and went on to receive a degree in Biology from NSUCA. He served in the United States Army and worked with the 28th Infantry Division as a Medic Instructor. He retired from Vernon Parish School Board where he served as principal, coach and science teacher. He also taught at Northwestern State University in the field of Nursing. Mr. West served two terms as a State Representative. He was a former member of the Leesville Masonic Lodge and served as Master in 1976. In 1973 he was ordained as deacon at First Baptist Church in Leesville and was a deacon and teacher at Westside Baptist Church for fifteen years.
He is survived by his wife, Sammie West of Prairieville; son, Leland & wife, Andre’ West of South Carolina; daughters, Linda West and Glen of Leesville; Cheryl & husband, Ricky Martin of Anacoco and Dana & husband, Alan Lofton of Prairieville; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
