I will never forget one conversation we had. It was the day before John Glenn made his orbital flight. Mr West and I were outside and I told him I was not coming to school the next day as I was going to watch John Glenn orbit the Earth. He looked at me with that familiar look and said "You know that is not something a principal likes to hear but if I didn't have to be here I would stay home also". Brilliant man and he gave much in his time....

Mr West was an inspiration to so many of us kids at Hicks High School.I have many fond memories of our teacher/student relationship. He was a blessing to our school and to all that knew him.Rest in peace Mr. West.

I was fortunate to have been taught by Mr. West at Hicks High during the 1960's. He was a brilliant man and an inspirational teacher. The world has lost a truly valuable resource, and I mourn his passing. Rest in peace, Mr. West.
Please accept my condolences. I have found comfort in God's word the Bible in times like this. Such as at 1Peter5:7; "while you throw all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you". How comforting to know Good wants us to talk to him and that he cares for us.
