Samuel Robert Henderson, 104, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on January 28, 2019, in his home surrounded by loved ones. Samuel, the son of Rev. Samuel Richard and Martha Keene Henderson, was born on September 22, 1914, in Iota, LA.

A retired chemist with Ethyl Corporation, Baton Rouge, Samuel was a man who loved God and served Him from the age of five years old, never wavering in his faith. He was devoted to his family and friends, and always thought the best of people. He loved farming, writing about his theories on gravity, photons, and the universal flood, debating with scholars on creationism vs. evolution, and corresponding through email with family and friends into his late 90’s. To earn his Bachelor’s degree from Southwestern Louisiana University, Samuel milked cows at the dairy farm daily at 4:00 A.M. and P.M. He also cooked for other students at his “Ptomaine Tavern,” an entrepreneurial initiative. He earned a Master’s degree from LSU and a Doctor of Ministry from Lighthouse Christian College.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Kerryl Lynne Henderson of DeRidder, LA; two sons, Richard W. Henderson and wife, Carol, of South Carolina, Thomas C. Henderson and wife, Joëlle, of Utah; Keturah K. Miller, close family friend, who took loving care of him for the past 10 years; and numerous grand and great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Samuel was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Samuel Richard and Martha Keene Henderson; his wife, Elvee Bonnie Piper Henderson; his son, Harry H. Henderson; and four sisters and four brothers.
