Ricky, the son of LT and Norma Lea Smith Jeter was born September 13, 1960, in Leesville. He passed away Tuesday, November 5th in Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his Parents, LT & Norma Jeter and his Brother, Gary Jeter.
Ricky had previously worked for the Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office for 12 years. He worked for the U.S. Civil Service the last 24 years. First, with Fort Polk Fire Department, then Range Control, next as a Sergeant with the Department of the Army Police. He was working as a Lock Mechanic with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at the Port Allen Lock in Baton Rouge, LA.
He was the hardest working man you would ever meet. He was very productive and had a strong work ethic. His co-workers meant a lot to him and he viewed them as dear friends. He had the values of the older generation and strongly believed in doing right by everyone he met. He lived his life in service to others. He truly lived the scripture, "Love your neighbor as yourself." He was always willing to help anyone in need, regardless if you were his family, friend, or a perfect stranger. He had helped to save numerous lives, but he never wanted any recognition. He was a respectable man who showed great respect to others. He stood up for what he believed was right and hated to see injustice. He strived to be the best man he could be and he was. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, and fishing. He was a big fan of the show, Duck Dynasty, and encouraged everyone to read Phil Robertson's book, Happy Happy Happy, as it reminded him of his childhood. He grew a beautiful garden and enjoyed the harvest every year. His family was the greatest love of his life. He deeply loved his wife, and set a good example of how a gentleman should treat his lady. He loved her homecookin' and insisted on having cornbread with most every meal. He adored his children. He was there for each of them giving advice, encouragement, support, and unconditional love. He cherished his grandchildren as they brought such joy to his life. He especially loved being "Pops" and riding his grandchildren on his tractor. He was greatly loved and respected. He will be missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.
