Milton Earl Holt, Sr.'s Obituary
Funeral services for Milton Earl Holt, Sr., 77, of Hornbeck, Louisiana will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 24, 2011, at Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Leesville with Rev. Morris Goins officiating. Burial will follow in the Leesville Cemetery in Leesville, LA under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.
Visitation will be held from 5 pm - 8 pm, Friday, September 23, 2011, and then 8 am until service time, Saturday, September 24th in the funeral home.
Milton, the son of Andrew Steven and Clara Ellen Smart Holt, was born September 1, 1934, in Leesville, Louisiana. He passed away Monday, September 19, 2011, at the Cornerstone Hospital in Bossier City, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter Clara Jane Holt.
Milton graduated from Leesville High School in 1952, where he played football and basketball. After graduation he joined the Navy and served three years aboard the USS Piedmont. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. Milton worked as a journeyman machinist for 18 years. He retired from the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s office as a Deputy after 26 years; he served as the Fire Arms Instructor and Range Master for 22 years.
Milton loved playing music; any string instrument would do. In his early years he played backup for George Jones and Willie Nelson. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was also a member of the Mt. Bethel Baptist Church in Leesville.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ruth Duke Holt of Hornbeck, son, Milton Earl Holt, Jr. of Minden; daughters Ruth Earline Holt and Fredda Jean Holt Pierce and brother, Marshall Glen Holt, all of Shreveport, LA; grandson, John Duke Sonnier of Hornbeck; brother-in-law, Joe and Linda Duke and sister-in-law Linda Duke Sanders, along with numerous nephews and nieces.
Pallbearers will be; Danny Self, Sean Humphries, Andrew Thompson, David Scoggin, Steve Haug & Chris Scarborough.
Thank You to Dr. Michael Moore, Dr. Raymond Coglan and Dr. James Jackson and the Willis Knighton North / fourth floor east staff, Dr Hanna Lubbos and Dr. Jose Matthews and the Staff of the Byrd Regional ICU Department, along with the nursing staff at the Cornerstone Critical Care Unit in Bossier City for all of your special care. Mrs. Ruth wants to extend a special thank you to her Hornbeck neighbors. You will never know what you mean to us.
