Mavis Genelle Murray's Obituary
Funeral services for Mavis Genelle Murray 86, of Anacoco, will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 22, 2020 in the Cold Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Buddy Freeman officiating. Burial will follow in the Cold Springs Cemetery in Anacoco, LA., under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home in Leesville.
Visitation will be Friday, August 21, from 4:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. and Saturday, August 22, 2020 from 9:00 A.M until time of service at the church.
Mavis was born on September 19, 1933 in Conyers, GA. to her parents, Noah Frank & Sarah Mamie Judkins Hammond. She passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 in the Willis Knighton North Hospital in Shreveport.
Mavis Genell Hammonds Murray was a loving wife to James Murray Sr. for 52 years at the time of his death in 2008. She had six children two who preceded her to heaven, John Franklin Ball and Pamela Gayle Ball Whitaker. The other four children are Kathleen Ball Kemp of Weatherford, TX., Michael Larry Ball and wife Michelle Ball of Barry, TX., James Markus Murray Jr. of Anacoco, LA., Jody Daniel Murray of Anacoco, LA., 22 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren.
Mavis was a hard working Christian woman who loved her Lord, children and job. She had 2 careers, the first was working different positions in the apparel industry and at 40 she went back to school to become a RN which later she became a CCRN. She had her RN license in 3 states TX, GA, LA. She worked the last 40 years in LA. in different positions in the health industry. Her favorite was working with the elderly. She loved her patients and they loved her. She very reluctantly retired as a Home Health Nurse after 3 tries at the age of 81.
Mavis was passionate gardener and loved to can what she grew and was a wonderful cook, but most of all Mavis loved the Lord and could not wait for the Lord to return. Her main concern was that her children and grandchildren were ready to meet Jesus.
