Lucille West Nichols' Obituary
Lucille “Lou” Nichols, 93, passed peacefully on July 8, 2016 at her home surrounded by her loved ones.
Lou was born May 11, 1923 in DeRidder to P.W. West and Artemis Cole West. She was preceded in her death by her husband, Robert B. Nichols, her parents and her two sisters: Denise Berry and Madeline Thompson.
Lou came from a pioneer family in the DeRidder area and had a deep love for the land, living on property she was born on and from which she passed. She spent countless days walking and four-wheeling on the property that was originally land granted to her grandfather, Mahlon West, in the 1880’s. She loved to smell the wild honeysuckles and marvel at God’s beauty when the dogwoods bloomed. Lou loved planting her garden, her flower beds and harvesting/cracking the black walnuts. She was also very thankful that her family contributed to the local community. Her father P.W., donated the 40 acre West Park in honor of his pioneering father, Mahlon, for the community’s families to enjoy. She loved watching her sons and grandsons play baseball at the West Park fields. She will be buried in the Beauregard Cemetery that her father established for a final resting place for our local families.
Lou was a very spiritual person with a deep faith. Lou relied on her faith especially during her last 10-year challenge from a debilitating stroke. She read her bible cover to cover many times.
Most of all Lou loved her sons and grandchildren. She was the best mother a son could hope to have. She was loving and giving and always wanted to be close to her family. She was a wonderful grandmother and great grandmother. All of her grandkids spent time with her growing up, drinking her coffee milk, and having their faces outlined by her loving hands as she put them to bed.
Lou leaves behind to cherish her memory her sons Robert B. Nichols, Jr., Ronald L. (Becky) Nichols, and John R. (Jennifer) Nichols. LuLu, as she was affectionately known has 7 grandchildren Bobby Nichols, Paul Nichols, Megan Nichols, Jennifer Nichols (Paul) Templet, Rene’ Nichols (Tom) Coody, Randall (Noel) Nichols and Ryan Nichols. There are also 6 great-grandsons; Addison, Landon, Barret, Braxton, Ethan, and Liam. Her Memory will also be treasured by her many Nieces and Nephews.
At Lou’s request there will be a graveside service at Beauregard Cemetery in DeRidder at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 with Deacon Weinnig officiating.
In Lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests that donations be made in her memory to your church or favorite charity.
