Joyce Keltz Rumsey's Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the loss of our Mimi, Mom, Sister, and Aunt, Joyce Keltz Rumsey. She entered God’s loving embrace on May 22, 2025, after a tenacious many years long battle with cancer. She was a beloved soul whose life story is a testimony to love, kindness, and resilience. Her journey on this earth, defined by an unyielding devotion to her family, leaves an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
Joyce was born in Delhi, Louisiana on August 29, 1941, with a heart full of compassion and a mind eager to explore and experience life. Unbelievably observant, she would see things others would never have noticed; and could quickly recall even the minutest details of long-ago events. She fussed over and indulged you as much as you would allow her to; happiest when she was doing for others.
She adored travel and absolutely marveled at the beautiful places she had an opportunity to visit. She enjoyed feeding and watching the birds who visited her garden, especially the cardinals and bluebirds. She delighted in dancing, sharing laughter, and most of all cherished being with her family. Her face absolutely glowed when she greeted you and her hugs were full of love. She was honest, thoughtful, and generous.
May we honor her by being a legacy of her remarkable life of unerring wisdom, inspirational love, quiet courage, and unwavering faith.
Joyce is preceded in death by her father and mother, Mel and Lucille Keltz, her grandparents, George and Ida Wedgeworth, her brother Jimmy Keltz, her former spouse of 34 years Barton Rumsey Sr., and her beloved yorkie Lexie.
She is survived by her son Barton Rumsey Jr. (Angie Dennis Rumsey), her granddaughters Brandi Rumsey Reams (Johnel Reams) and Megan Rumsey (Levi Bourque), her great grandchildren Nathaniel Landry, Lane Bourque, and Reese Reams, her sister Angie Keltz, and many nieces and nephews.
We will celebrate her extraordinary life on May 24, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Labby Memorial Funeral Home, in Leesville, Louisiana. Graveside services will be immediately following at the Beauregard Cemetery in DeRidder, Louisiana. Miles Holladay of Asbury United Methodist Church of Shreveport, Louisiana will preside over both services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the National Audubon Society.
