He was a Blessing to the family I Love talking to him .
It had been many years since I had thought of my old friend Delbert Hollis; however, last night I had a dream about him. When I awoke this morning, I thought how strange it was that I would dream about someone that I hadn't seen in a great many years. I decided to google his name and find out what had happened to him in the 50-55 years since we had seen one another. I located this obituary almost immediately and was so sad to read that he had recently passed away. I met Delbert in the early 60's when we were both visiting relatives in Rockport, Texas. I was on the sea wall with my grandfather who was fishing when this very nice young man from Littlefield, Texas approached us and introduced himself. He and my grandfather hit it off immediately as they found that they both had attended Hardin-Simmons University, were good Baptists, and both liked to fish. Delbert was visiting his brother in Rockport and really didn't know any other young people his age in Rockport. I was between semesters in college and knew few young people there. Delbert and I became fast friends and had great times together exploring the area, We went to church together, he fished with my grandfather, and he came to visit my grandparents' house often. He talked about his girlfriend back home and he knew I had a boyfriend in Oklahoma where I lived. Still....we enjoyed one another's company. I remember our having a picnic at the Big Tree at Goose Island Park on one of my birthdays. He made the best queso for the picnic. That was before any of the Mexican restaurants served queso. In fact, I still have a recipe "Delbert's Chili Con Queso" in my recipe file as his, with bacon, was better than most. I was glad to read his obituary and learn that he married the Brenda he used to talk about. From the words written there, it sounded as if he was a wonderful man who loved his family, just like I knew he would be. My sincere sympathy to those who loved and knew him. I will always treasure the brief friendship I shared with him in our younger days. I'm attaching a picture of Delbert standing by his little blue bug in Rockport.
To the Hollis family, I was so sorry to hear about your loss. I enjoyed knowing Delbert years back with Beauregard's Courtesy band. He was always so upbeat and encouraging. He was a wonderful man and adored his family. He will be missed in this community.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. When microwaves first came out, I purchased my first one from him at his store east side of DeRidder. He was very accommodating. He will be missed.
My prayers are with the Hollis family. Delbert was a wonderful man and I'm going to miss him. I enjoyed knowing him through the music program at FBC. He always asked me about my son when I would see him. He will be missed.
