Funeral services for Charles Lee Shirley, 71, of DeRidder, LA, will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2013, 2:00 PM, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church of DeRidder, LA. Ministers officiating will be Rev. Alan Knuckles and Rev. Danny Wilson. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, DeRidder, LA, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home, DeRidder, LA. Charles passed from this life on Wednesday, October 9, 2013, in Lake Charles, LA.
Visitation begins Friday, October 11, 2013, 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm and again on Saturday, October 12, 2013, 1:00PM until the service all at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in DeRidder, LA.
Survivors include his wife, Henda Hines Shirley of DeRidder, LA; 3 daughters, Robin Bedgood and husband Jamie of Singer, LA, Cara Shirley Barron and husband Clay of Silsbee, TX and Leigh Richmond and husband Wilkie of Hornbeck, LA; 1 brother, William Earl Shirley, Jr. and wife Bobbie of Cecilia, LA; 1 sister, Gayle Sadden and husband Deen of DeRidder, LA and 6 grandchildren. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Gladys Crowder Shirley and William Earl Shirley, Sr.
Charles was born on June 3, 1942, in Sugartown, LA to Gladys and William Shirley where he lived most of his life before moving to DeRidder during his high school years. He was a retired School Teacher teaching at Ragley High School, DeRidder High School and his last twenty years at South Beauregard High School. He was a U.S. Army Veteran where he was a Chaplain’s Assistant while stationed in Germany. Charles was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where he was a Deacon. He had volunteered for the Mounted Sheriff’s Posse, Nursing Home Singers, God’s Food Box and Beauregard Memorial Hospital Auxillary. Charles also raised Arabian Horses.
