Carolyn Delores "Dee" Wallace's Obituary
Ms. Carolyn Delores “Dee” Matthews (Freeman) Wallace, 60, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on Thursday, June 25, 2020 in Leesville, Louisiana.
Dee was a driven professional with an unmatched work ethic and an avid servant in helping others in her free time. She also loved her family and dog (Fiona) with all of her heart. When diagnosed with cancer in 2019, Dee remained dedicated and optimistic to beat this cancer. She remained brave and true to her faith in God throughout her final weeks of life.
Carolyn was born on October 17, 1959 in Augsburg, Germany to Alice (Matthews) King and Earl Matthews. She graduated from Leesville High School in 1978. Dee has worked for the military for over 40 years in various positions. Prior to her passing, her last job was working as a Lead Recreation Assistant at Cantrell Fitness Center for the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation at Fort Polk Military Installation. She naturally displayed a wonderful knack for solving problems, where she also excelled as a government union representative.
Dee will be remembered for her many accomplishments and service to the community. She served as a caterer, wedding planner, event planner, fitness trainer, and VFW volunteer. She was a generous individual who loved helping her family, friends, and others. She was always passionate about bringing people together. Dee was a big-hearted giver who would give you the shirt off her back. She was a faithful member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church for over 50 years where she served on the Usher Board Ministry and later in the choir. She was also a charter member of Heroine Chapter 71 of the Order of the Eastern Stars. She often volunteered at church, the American Legion, and Jubilee Park committee.
Those left to cherish her memories include her siblings: Luella Gordon of Leesville, LA; Earl (Linda) L. Matthews of South Holland, IL; Bernice L. Shannon of Virginia Beach, VA; Bernard (Michelle) L. Matthews of San Antonio, TX. Numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Earline Chung, and her brother, Joseph L. Matthews. All of whom she loved and deeply touched.
