Bessie, 82, hit her final and biggest Jackpot on September 7, 2021 with her loving and devoted daughter right by her side, as always. Born to the reunion of Oliver and Bertie Rogers Powell on November 24, 1938, in Temple, Louisiana, Bessie was the last of 7 siblings. She graduated from Simpson High School in 1959. Her class was the first to walk the isle of the Simpson High School Auditorium. In her lifetime of work, Bessie worked at St. Mary’s Training School, caring for special needs children. She later worked as a cafeteria lady at Simpson High School for 15 years and goodness, could she cook. She always made sure those who were hungry and wanted extra was given extra, even if she had to sneak it to them out the back door. After retiring from the cafeteria, she began working at the Hilltop. As new owners took over the store and the names changed, she remained a dedicated employee and finished her employment at Bud’s Grocery.
Bessie was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend to many.
Proceeded in death by her parents, Oliver and Bertie Rogers Powell, husband, George “Enos” Basco and her son, Randy Basco.
