William "Bill" H. Brough's Obituary
Funeral services for William “Bill” H. Brough, 94, of New Llano, Louisiana will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 24th at the Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Leesville. The burial will follow at the Forest Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, Nov 23rd, at 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM in the funeral home.
William, the son of Theophile and Nora Gerry Brough, was born December 23, 1920 in Amesbury, MA. He passed away at his residence in New Llano, Friday, November 20th. William was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife of 50 years Dorothy Louise Copeland Brough, daughter, Annette Brough Fowler and sisters Edith DeMarkis & Margaret Brough
He moved with his father and two sisters in 1933 at the age of 13 from Boston, Mass to the New Llano Colony. He lived and was an active member of the colony for many years. He worked at the ice house until he moved to Houston, TX. He returned to live in his colony home in 1963 where he lived until his passing.
William served in the US Marine Corp and was a veteran of World War II and he was a member of the American Legion Post 145 in Leesville. Throughout his life he worked construction building homes in Vernon Parish. Later in life he worked in the cottages at the Vernon Parish State School. He ended his working career at the Vernon Parish School Board in the Maintenance Dept.
He was a founding member of the New Llano Volunteer Fire Dept. serving on the original Board of Directors. He served in many capacities including Fire Chief and Treasure. He was an avid story teller and loved to share life experiences. He was an avid Wampus Cat Football fan and never missed a game. He was a loving and devoted father and Grandfather and loved family time.
He is survived by his daughters, Renee Brannon of New Llano, Lorraine and husband Britt Goodner of Largo, FL, Mary Talbort of Shreveport and Vianna and husband Darrell Cheshire of Carthage, TX; sons, Arnold and wife Donna Brough of Pineville, Gary Brough of Fort Worth, TX and Larry Dean and wife Sandy Holloway of Houston, TX and his beloved girls, Deanna and husband Christopher, Tanya, Ashley, Annalesha and Naomi Brannon & Gabby; 22 grandchildren and many Great Grandchildren.
Bill’s family has requested that memorial donations be made to the Semper Fi Fund.
