William "Dub" Harold Calcote's Obituary
William “Dub” Harold Calcote entered peacefully into rest on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at the age of 86 years, 8 months and 9 days, at his home with his family by his side. Dub was born on Saturday, June 22, 1935 in Cravens, Louisiana to Acie “Pete” Calcote and Norma James Calcote.
Visitation will begin Friday March 4, 2022, from 1:00 PM until the time of the service which will begin at 2:00 PM, in Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA with Rev. Alfred Kennedy and Rev. Frank Ott officiating. Interment will follow at Sugartown Cemetery in Sugartown, LA. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder.
Dub spent his childhood in Rosepine where he played basketball. He was drafted into the Army in 1958 and was stationed in Alaska for two years. During that time, he began to recreationally box and he went on to win many trophies. He later went on to work offshore in the oil fields as a tool pusher. After he retired, Dub stayed busy by farming, raising cattle, making sugar cane syrup, hunting, and growing watermelons. He was a lifelong member of Sugartown Baptist Church. Even though Dub was a man of few words, he was full of knowledge and wisdom. What brought him the most joy was watching his cows roam and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be missed dearly for his strong nature, yet ever loving heart.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 60 years, Louise Welch Calcote of Sugartown, LA; daughter, Bylinda Rieves of Bossier City, LA; brother, Edward Calcote; grandchildren, Brittni Prestage and husband David, Brooke Rieves, Josie Walker and husband Cameron, and Torie Roberts; and great grandchildren Davi Prestage, Chance Walker, and Landrie Roberts; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Norma Calcote; son, Jerry Calcote; brother, Dee Calcote.
