William E. "Gene" Allen's Obituary
A Memorial Celebration of Life for William E. “Gene” Allen, will be January 17, 2015, 11:00 A.M., at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, Reverend Clennon W. Turner, Pastor, 1110 South 10th Street, Leesville, LA 71446.
William better known as “Gene” was the fourth child of eight. He graduated in 1965 from Dansville Sr. High School, Dansville, New York; he worked and attended the State University of New York (SUNY), at Brockport, N.Y., where he earned an associate degree. In 1967 “Gene” enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he studied and trained in Combat Intelligence, Interrogation and Intelligence Analysis. William wrote the handbook on Civil-Military Relationships between III Corps, AFCENT, and the Federal Republic of Germany, had three tours to Vietnam not to mention the numerous decorations, medals, badges, citations and campaign ribbons he received while serving his country. “Gene” retired from the U.S.A. in 1987 and made his home here in Vernon Parish.
It wasn’t what the country could do for him, but what he could do for his country. It was an honor for him to serve his country so upon his retirement, he found himself leaning toward associations that were somehow military affiliated or a public service was provided. There is where you will find William “Gene” Allen. To name a few, he served as Commander for the VFW, Post 3106, American Legion District Commander and VFW District Commander. “Gene” was appointed to the National Legislative Committee that caused him to travel to Washington, D.C. quite often where he spoke on behalf of veterans all over the world. He loved his country and its people and he contributed in whatever way he was needed and he could.
He is predeceased by his parents, one special brother and 2 nephews.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of 10 years, Lillie R. Allen, two sons, William Allen, Sebastian Allen, one daughter, Kimberly Allen, one step daughter, Shavannia (Shelby) Dash, four brothers, Carleton “Butch” (Elizabeth) Allen, Lawrence (Gail) Allen, Michael (Maryanne) Allen, Patrick (Mary Ann) Didas, two sisters, Judith (Robert “Bob”) Bush, Carol (Steve) Preston, several grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
I am blessed to be the wife of this amazing and outstanding man and we, the family of William E. Allen will celebrate the life of this “Special” man on January 17, 2015, 11:00 A.M, 1110 South 10th Street, Leesville, LA, New Birth Missionary Baptist Church.
