Walter Thomas Shelton's Obituary
On, Tuesday, November 29, 2022, Walter Thomas Shelton went to meet his Lord and Savior at the age of 80.
Walter was born on November 23, 1942, in Leesville, Louisiana to Walter and Essie Shelton.
After graduating from Leesville High School he married the love of his life, Myrtle, L. Cryer. He went on to attend and graduate from Louisiana Polytechnic Institue in Ruston, Louisiana. Then he served 7 years in the U.S. Air Force where he was able to accomplish one of his lifelong dreams of being a pilot. After the military he worked and retired from the U.S. Postal Service during which he became a pastor at Lillie United Pentecostal Church, and also, was a volunteer firefighter with the Savage Forks Volunteer Fire Department.
He enjoyed diving, fishing, missionary work, but most of all he loved teaching others about the Lord.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Shelton and Essie E. Lesan; brothers, Calvert Wayne Lesan, Don Smith, and Milton ”Mitch” Mitcham; sisters, Connie Wilson and Peggy Weir; Daughter-in-Law, Brandy Shelton; and grandson, Jesse Shelton.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, of 61 years, Myrtle Shelton; sons: Albert Shelton, and wife, Mary, of Leesville, Dennis Shelton of Leesville, Joe Shelton, and wife, Melissa, of Wichita Falls, TX.; daughter: Essie Slaydon, of Leesville; sister: Mary Ann Smothermon, and husband, Mike, of Alabama; 11 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
The Shelton family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Labby Memorial Funeral Home, Lillie United Pentecostal Church, Dr. Randall Duplechain and his wonderful staff, and all the family and friends who have helped and supported, in this time of mourning.
Viewing will to be held at Lillie United Pentecostal Church in Leesville, Louisiana on Sunday, December 4th, 2022, at 5 PM until time of service.
The memorial service will be held the following day at 10 AM. Burial will be at Evans Cemetery in Evans, Louisiana following service.
