Rev. Walter R. Mallard's Obituary
Rev. Walter R. Mallard, 87, of DeRidder, Louisiana, entered into the presence of the Lord on Friday, May 18, 2018 at his home. Walter, the son of Burtha Mae (Burgess) and Ben Mallard was born on August 19, 1930 in Pavo, Georgia. He is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Betty Davis Mallard; his parents; son-in-law, Rodney Smith; two brothers, Wallace Mallard and Wayne Mallard.
Visitation will begin Sunday, May 20, 2018, from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM, at Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in DeRidder, Louisiana.
Visitation will begin Monday, May 21, 2018, from 1:00 PM until time of service at 2:00 PM, at Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in DeRidder with Rev. Bill Whited, Rev. Don Steele, Rev. Jesse Truitt, and Rev. Reuben Paul officiating. Internment will immediately follow at Beauregard Cemetery in DeRidder, Louisiana.
Rev. Mallard was a member of the Bible Missionary Church. He became an ordained elder on August 2, 1960. He pastored churches in Kansas, Colorado, Arkansas, Florida, and Louisiana. He served in the Army as an aircraft mechanic and helicopter instructor. He attended Trevecca Nazarene College in Nashville, Tennessee. He was a resident of DeRidder for 40 years working with the Shirley Brothers at Economy Furniture and Shirley Furniture.
Left to cherish his memory is one son, Stephen Mallard of Moss Bluff, LA; two daughters, Gail Smith of Ferriday, LA, Deborah Steele and husband, Don of DeRidder, LA; one brother, Frank Mallard of Florida; one sister Brenda Bailey and husband, Shorty of Bainbridge, Georgia; six grandchildren, Tamie McGowan, Jonathan Mallard, Rebekah Moore, Benjamin Steele, Aimee Marks, Christina Lirette; and eight great grandchildren.
