Walter Raleigh Cooper's Obituary
Walter Raleigh Cooper, 91, of Leesville, was born on May 24, 1924 in Sicily Island, LA. He passed away on February 11, 2016 at his residence in Leesville.
He served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy during WWII and had a brief livelihood in the auto industry in Detroit followed by a long and fruitful carpentry career in Los Angeles before retiring to Leesville in October of 1993.
In Leesville he enjoyed the fellowship of the Ellen Burr Baptist Church.
Walter is preceded in death by his mother Anna Thompson Williams; stepfather, Grandison Williams; father, Rev. Martin C. Cooper and sons, Christopher, Douglas & Cornell Cooper.
He is survived by sons, Marcus and wife Nora Cooper of Los Vegas, NV and Gregory and Lilly Cooper of Phoenix, AZ; Daughter, Augusta Collins of Los Angles, CA & numerous cousins, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Ellen Burr Baptist Church on Monday, February 22 at 12:00 noon. Burial will follow in the Central Louisiana Veteran’s Cemetery. Friends may visit from 10 AM until service time Monday, Feb 22nd at the church.
