Virginia Lee Harrison Mansell's Obituary
Virginia Lee Mansell, 80, passed from this life on Friday, December 14, 2012 at her residence in DeRidder, LA. Virginia was born on April 1, 1932, to Willis Harrison and Pearl New Harrison in DeRidder, LA. She served with the Army Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) for 33 years. She was an auditor and instructor traveling all over the world to include Korea, Japan, Guam, Okinawa, Spain, Germany, England and many other countries. She originally started with AAFES at Fort Polk, LA and finished her illustrious government career at World Headquarters in Duncanville, TX. She received numerous awards in recognition for her dedication, loyalty and selfless service in support of our Soldiers, Airmen and their Families.
Upon retiring from AAFES she began a real estate career in 1989. As with everything she pursued, she excelled in real estate and was respected and admired by all that had the privilege to work with her. She held numerous offices to include: two consecutive terms as President (1999 – 2000) of The Greater Fort Polk Area Realtors, Chairperson of the Legislative Committee – 2002, State Director – 2002, Secretary/Treasurer – 1994 thru 1998 and the Education Committee – 1991. Her hard work and dedication did not go unrecognized by her peers. She was selected as Realtor of the Year in 1994, 1995, 1999 and 2000. Through both careers she was always able to find time for bowling. It was a sport she loved for over 55 years. During that time, she won too many awards to mention. She especially enjoyed being a mentor to the youth of Beauregard Parish helping them learn the game. Sunday’s were for worship, Jeff Gordon and the Dallas Cowboys.
Survivors include one son, Kenneth Mansell of DeRidder, LA; 1 grandson, Micah Mansell and wife Kristen of Lampass, TX; 4 great grandchildren, Colin, Will, Jonathan and Sara.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 17, 2012, 2:00 PM at Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder, LA. Minister officiating will be Rev. Lindsey with the burial at Woodlawn Cemetery.
Her visitation will begin on Sunday, December 16, 2012, 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM, at the funeral home.
