Virginia "Ginny" Wisdom Davis' Obituary
Virginia (Ginny) Wisdom Davis died peacefully on May 25, 2024, just three days after her 52nd birthday.
Ginny loved celebrating her birthday and was not shy about reminding everyone when it was approaching, often starting the countdown two months in advance.
Ginny was born in Huntsville, Alabama May 22, 1972, to parents Richard (Rick) and Mary Alice Wisdom and older sisters Amy and Nancy. By her first birthday her family had moved to Vicksburg, Mississippi. She lived in Mississippi and Saudi Arabia before her family moved to Germany when Ginny was in 5th grade. She graduated from Frankfurt American High School and then moved to Louisiana, where she would live most of her adult life. Ginny earned an associates degree from Northwestern State University and worked in various customer service jobs.
She never realized it, but Ginny had a real gift for making people feel special, feel heard, and making them laugh. She could debate politics, discuss her Christian beliefs, or recite statistics from any NFL football team. But the thing most of her friends remember first is her lively spirit. Ginny had a dry sense of humor and could make anyone laugh. She was a shy person who loved God, her family and friends, and her dogs. At the same time, she enjoyed a good party and knew how to light up a room.
If you knew Ginny, you know that she loved football, specifically the LSU Tigers, New Orleans Saints, and KC Chiefs. Her passion for football grew stronger after the sudden loss of her husband, Phillip, in 2007. Cheering on the Saints and Tigers to national championships gave her a focus and a glimpse of joy. She also leaned on her faith. Ginny had a quiet, strong Christian faith. Knowing this has helped her family in these difficult days.
Ginny was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Davis, and her father, Richard Wisdom. She is survived by her mother, Mary Alice Wisdom, of DeRidder, Louisiana; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Amy and Charles Ainsworth of Jackson, MS; Nancy and Mark Elderkin of Upland, CA; and her longtime companion and best friend, Ladd Dyson of Iowa, LA. Ginny loved being a part of the Dyson family. Ladd’s children, Jodi and Lance, and his grandchildren were dear to her. She loved them as her own.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Ginny’s memory to the First United Methodist of DeRidder (https://fumcderidder.org/) or to the United Methodist Children’s Home (https://lumcfs.org/donate/). Services will be Saturday, June 1, at First United Methodist Church of DeRidder. Visitation 10-11 am, services at 11 am, followed by burial at Beauregard Cemetery.
