Vernice H. Kay's Obituary
Funeral services for Vernice Haymon Kay, 88, of DeRidder, LA, will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 16, 2015, at First United Pentecostal Church of DeRidder, LA, with Rev. Zale Lewis and Rev. George L. Glass, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Pinehill Cemetery, Leesville, LA, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder. Mrs. Kay passed from this life on Tuesday, January 13, 2015, in Texas City, TX.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM, Thursday, January 15, 2015, and Friday, 10:00 AM until the time of the service in the First United Pentecostal Church of DeRidder, LA.
Vernice was born on Saturday, June 12, 1926, to Hezekiah and Lena Maddox Haymon in Fullerton, LA. She lived most of her life in Galveston County, Texas, and lived in DeRidder, LA for the past twenty-five years. She was a homemaker and a member of the First United Pentecostal Church of DeRidder. She fought a good fight, she finished the race, she kept the faith and God now has taken her fragile, beautiful hands and walked her into the Glory Land.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Sam Olen Kay of DeRidder; two sons, Robert Kay of Texas City, TX, and Glen Kay of DeRidder; two daughters, Betty Saragusa (Joe) of West Memphis, AR, and Linda Finn(Charlie) of Texas City, TX; three sisters, Rose Cooley of DeRidder, Melba Legg of Leesville, LA, and Jodean Blevins of Edcouch, TX; one brother, Jimmy Brister of Leesville. She has numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, two great great grandsons, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Joyce McDaniel, Racie Dedman and Dorothy Johnson and two brothers, Huey P. Haymon and J. E. Brister.
