Vergie Cummings Parsons' Obituary
Memorial services for Vergie Cummings Parsons, 94, of DeRidder, Louisiana, will be held at 10 A.M., Saturday, September 5, 2009, at Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in DeRidder, LA, with Rev. Frank Minton officiating. Ms. Parsons passed away Monday, August 31, 2009, in Byrd Regional Hospital in Leesville, LA.
A resident of DeRidder for the past forty-five years, Vergie was born in Wichita, Kansas, January 23, 1915, the daughter of Clarence and Edith Cummings. . During WWII, she was an original “Rosie the Riveter” at Boeing Aircraft and was later an electrical inspector. Ms. Parsons was of the Baptist faith.
Ms. Parsons is survived by one son, James Slaymaker and wife Jackie of Sebring, FL; two daughters, Joyce Minton and husband Frank of Montgomery, TX, and Patricia Buck and husband Robert of Roeland Park, KS; one brother, Clifford Cummings of Conroe, TX; two sisters, Elaine Moses of Moss Bluff, LA, and Connie Alcock of Hurst, TX; eleven grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by daughter, Vicki LaTurner of DeRidder; brothers, W. B. “Buster” Cummings, Edward “Toots” Cummings,and Ralph Cummings, and sister, Marie Cummings Adamson.
The family of Vergie requests donations be made to the Hospice organization of choice.
