Vera was the daughter of Octavia (Seal) Bailey and Alfred Huey Bailey Sr. She was born in Hoy, LA on November 28, 1921 reaching the age of 95 years old.
She was a faithful follower of God and an inspiration and spiritual friend to many. She was saved at the age of 11, baptized by her Uncle Rev. Griff Carroll, she always believed and maintained her faith that God would carry her through her lifetime and today is proof. Through her childhood and her adult life she served God at the Three Pine Pentecostal Church and then in 1997 she moved to Grace Church serving God until her death. Vera especially enjoyed the song worship services prior to church – her time to prepare for the great sermons God gave the pastor.
Her Christian life and faith showed through her glowing smiles. Her girls, grandchildren and great grandchildren took advantage of her the knowledge of Christ she provided daily for direction in their own lives. She was always available when calls for Mother or Maw-Maw for advice and the wonderful prayers she prayed with each one to help them with decisions. The conversations, love and prayers she always provided have been a major part of each of our lives.
Vera was a wonderful mother and friend. She would pour out her love to her girls relying on her faith in God to get her through life each day. As a friend to all whom she met, they would stop by (both local and from afar) she had met visiting a short time and having prayer before their departure. She greeted them warmly always with her big sweet caring smile. Vera was full of life, always caring for other’s well being but would steal the stage at many events.
She graduated from DeRidder High School and began her working career with DeRidder Businesses: Downtown Café, Highland Growers, Big Star, West Brothers, Van’s Department Store, Crawford One-hour Martinizing, Weingartens and Safeway.
Vera retired from Safeway on September 30, 1985, but did not slow down, opening “Vera’s Childcare” and later the “Rosepine Flea Market” that she ran for five years. Then on to her hobby of painting with “Vera’s Oil Painting” classes in 2005 and it is still operating in her honor today. She started painting at age 67. Even when macular degeneration started taking her eyesight, she continued her enjoyment of painting through sights of the past; she was able to get her vision and inspiration on the canvases with assistance from others. The past four years she has been the “Plant Lady” growing and selling vegetable plants at the Farm Supply Store.
In the last two years, she attended weekly Freedom Fighters bible study led by Pastor Charlie Carroll offering her many years of faith in serving God to young attendees with addiction and other problems.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, father of her children (Love of her life) Bobbie Joe Little, and her second husband, Olinee B. (Dude) Moses, and her brother Vernon Bailey and 3 additional siblings.
Those remaining to honor and cherish her legacy are two daughters, Glenda Sue (Little) Jarrell (Robert); Gloria Jean (Little) Alesi (Larry), 3 grandchildren Jesse William Reich, Jr (Natalie), Wenda Lynn Kossina(Mike), Dabie (Jarrell) Broussard (Greg), 10 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren
