Funeral services for Velma Maxine Crowell Nabors, 68, of Leesville, Louisiana will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, August 13, 2011, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Leesville with Rev. Joseph Garner officiating. Burial will follow in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Hawthorne, LA under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.
Visitation will be held from 6 pm - 8 pm, Friday, August 12, 2011, at the funeral home and on Saturday, August 13th from 10:00 am until time of service at the church.
Velma Maxine Crowell was the 6th child born to the union of Rev. Wesley and Sis. Willie Crowell on April 19, 1943, in Leesville, Louisiana.
She accepted Christ at an early age at the Pine Grove Church of God and Christ under the leadership of Elder W. B. Crowell. She was active in Sunday School and YPWW. In 1994 she joined Pleasant Hill Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Joseph Garner. She was a member of the Pastoral Care Ministry and Adult Women #6. Velma was a 1962 graduate of Vernon High School. She was united in Holy Matrimony in April, 1963 to Raymond Nabors, Sr., of Vowells Mill, Louisiana and to this union five children was born. Velma worked as a Para Professional at Leesville High School, until her retirement in 2004. She later went to work for Cubic Applications where she worked until her health failed.
Velma was preceded in death by her husband Raymond, mother and father. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Wesley Jr., Joseph and James Crowell and one sister, Helen Nabors.
She leaves to cherish her memories, four sons, Raymond Jr. (Deborah) and Lamond (Krystal) of Fayetteville, TN, Mark (Deborah) of Mansfield, LA and Kevin of Leesville and one daughter, Katrina of Leesville; four sisters, Carol Jordan of Los Angeles, CA, Elaine Tilghman of Chandler, AZ and Shirley Orange (Harold) and Gwendolyn Parker, both of Leesville; four brothers, Philip Crowell, Carl Crowell (Sharon), Jonathan Crowell, all of Leesville, LA and Kenneth Crowell (Helen) of Houston, TX and twelve grandchildren.
