Troy E Pollock's Obituary
A homegoing service for Troy Elane Pollock (SFC-Ret) of Anacoco, LA will be held on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. in the First United Pentecostal Church in Leesville, LA with Rev. Ben Pollock, Rev. Wesley Manning, and Rev. Mark Christian officiating.
Burial will follow in the Mitchell Cemetery in Anacoco, under the direction of the Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 23rd, from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m., and on Tuesday, August 24th from 8a.m. until service time in the First United Pentecostal Church of Leesville.
Troy was born on March 23, 1934 to Garland and Elvira Pollock in Hamburg, Arkansas. He was their twelfth child of fifteen. On August 19, 2021, he passed peacefully at 3:23 p.m. with his children surrounding his bedside at the age of 87. He was Pentecostal by faith and raised his family to be faithful to church and God.
Troy enlisted in the U.S. Army in June 1953 at the age of 19. He served for 2 years and then re-enlisted in February 1959. He served two tours in Germany with his family. He had two unaccompanied tours in Korea from December 1953 to April 1955 and in Vietnam from May 1970 to March 1971. During his service he received several commendations and medals to include, United Nations Service medal, Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and at least 7 Good Conduct Medals. He retired at Fort Polk, LA on April 30, 1977. Following his retirement from the Army, he attended the Sabine Valley Vocational-Technical School in Many, LA and obtained a technical certificate in Construction Electricity in June 1981 and Small Engine Mechanics in July 1985.
Troy was preceded in death by his parents, Garland and Elvira (Holland) Pollock, and 13 siblings: Carrie; Willard; L.C.; Lorene; Ruby; Alton; LuDelle; C.W.; Horace; Fayrene; Willie Ray; Sue; and R.L. He was also preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Rachel(Thornton) Self and father-in-law, David L. Self.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years: Mary Virginia (Self) Pollock of Anacoco, LA; four children: son Kim (Debbie) Pollock of Leesville, LA; daughter, Tawania Elaine Perkins (Curtiss) of Anacoco, LA; son Rory (Amanda) Pollock of Slagle, LA; and son Troy (Anna) Pollock of Anacoco, LA. One brother: Earl (Wanda) Pollock of Hamburg, AR. Brothers-in-law: W. Waine Self (Jimmie) of Monroe, LA, and Jimmy David Self (Marie) of Chatham, LA.
16 Grandchildren: Rev. Ben (Tandi) Pollock; Jeremy Pollock; Christi (Mark) Ashworth; Meagen (Cameron) Smith; Stephanie (Colton) Mosley; Jessie (Mia) Stewart; Tara (Logan) Coger; Nathaniel (Kaylea) Perkins; Jordan Pollock; Nolan and Chelsea Perkins; Kayla (Casey) Stephens; Landen (Alexus) Pollock; Kelli-Jo Pollock; Aaron (Kara) Pollock; and Amber Pollock.
22 Great Grandchildren: Zackary, Judah and Levi Pollock; Waylon and Noah Pollock; Brayden, Landry and Blayne Ashworth; Paxton and Amelia Smith; Maci and Rowan Mosley; Ezra and Valerie Stewart; Shailyn and Lauren Coger; Nate and Conor Perkins; Paris Burns and Colt Stephens; Hunter Pollock and GraceLynn Pollock.
A host of nieces and nephews and special friends including Senator Mike Reese, Sheriff Sam Craft, Chief Calvin Turner, Mayor Freddy Boswell, and Ronald and Paulette Jeane.
Pallbearers honored to serve will be Macky Dowden, Cameron Smith, Jeremy Pollock, Jordan Pollock, Landen Pollock, Casey Stephens, Aaron Pollock and Zackary Pollock.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Sheriff Sam Craft, Chief Calvin Turner, Mayor Freddy Boswell, Curtiss Perkins, Travis Vincent, and Ronald Jeane.
The family would like to thank the staff at Byrd Hospital, especially Dr. David Aymond, Kevin Spoor, and the respiratory team, and the nursing staff who took such loving care of our daddy.
