Tressie Miller's Obituary
Funeral services for Tressie Miller, 88, of Hicks, Louisiana will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 7, 2012, at Laurel Hill Baptist Church. Bro. B.G. Dyess, Bro. Tom Carpenter, and Bro. Jeremy Blocker will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Laurel Hill Cemetery, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. - 9 p.m., Thursday, September 6th, at the funeral home and on Friday, September 7th, from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church.
Tressie, the daughter of Samuel Alexander Carruth and Bertie Catherine Monk Carruth, was born on June 13, 1924, in Hicks, LA. She passed away Monday, September 3, 2012, in Alexandria, LA, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She died surrounded by her loving family.
Tressie grew up and raised a family in the Hicks/Simpson area. Always good with her hands, she worked as a seamstress and homemaker, often sewing and altering clothes for family and friends. She loved making things by hand and her talents extended to embroidery and quilting, as well as sewing. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and a faithful christian. She was a life-long member of Laurel Hill Baptist Church, where she served in various capacities over the years.
This year, Mrs. Miller and her husband, C.D., were recognized by Louisiana Family Forum as one of the longest married couples residing in Louisiana. This award resulted in the couple being featured on the Family Forum website and newsletter. Thrilled with the award, Mrs. Miller attributed faith and hard work to her long lasting marriage.
She is survived by her husband of 72 ½ years, C.D. Miller of Hicks, sons, Lamar Miller and wife Mary Anna of Leesville and Kenneth Miller and wife Deborah of Bentley; daughter, Mary Priscilla Lewis and husband Phil of Leesville; brothers, S.A. Carruth, Jr, of LaCamp and Ronald Carruth and wife Linda of Calcasieu; sister Catherine Figga and husband, Tom of Tampa, FL; 8 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
