Tommy Lewis Spears' Obituary
Funeral services for Tommy Lewis Spears, 83, of Pitkin, Louisiana, will be held Monday, February 5, 2018, at 2 PM, at Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in DeRidder, Louisiana, with Rev. Jeremy McCrory and Rev. Arlen Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Wisby Memorial Cemetery in Cravens, Louisiana, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder. Visitation will be Sunday, February 4, 2018, from 4 PM until 9 PM, and Monday, February 5, 2018, from 12 noon until time of the service at 2 PM.
Tommy passed away on February 2, 2018, at Westwood Manor Nursing Home in DeRidder, Louisiana, with his loving family at his side. Tommy was born in Oakdale, Louisiana, on October 2, 1934, to Wayne and Eunice Spears. His childhood was spent in Oakdale with his parents and older brother Jimmy. Tommy was a member of the Oakdale High graduating Class of 1952.
Tommy married the love of his life, Claudia Jo Johnson of Cravens, Louisiana, on June 22, 1953. In 1954, he began what was to be a long career in the paper mill business working at Calcasieu Paper Company of Elizabeth, Louisiana. He worked there until 1971 when he left Calcasieu to accept a position in the shipping department at the Boise Cascade Southern Operations mill in DeRidder, Louisiana. There he remained until his retirement in 1998.
Tommy was a member of First Baptist Church of Pitkin, where he served for many years as a Sunday School Teacher and Deacon. Tommy loved his family and valued his time spent with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed working with his cattle and spending time outdoors.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Eunice Spears, and his brother, Jimmy Wayne Spears. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 64 years, Claudia Jo Johnson Spears of Cravens, Louisiana;his son, Robert Wayne Spears and wife, Yvette of Maurepas, Louisiana; daughter, Randie Marie Spears Strother and husband Lamar of Cravens, Louisiana, as well as seven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
