Funeral services for Tommy ”Trigger” Allen, 66, of DeRidder, LA, will be held on Friday, September 28, 2012, 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church, DeRidder, LA. Officiating will be Rev. Lynn Clayton, minister of New Life Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, DeRidder, LA, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder.
Visitation will begin on Thursday, September 27, 2012, 4:00 PM until 10:00 PM at Labby Memorial Funeral Home, DeRidder, LA and on Friday at the church beginning at 9:00 AM until the service.
John Thomas Allen “Tommy” was born on July 19, 1946, to Norman Allen and Anna Crumpler Allen in DeRidder, LA. He graduated from DeRidder High School in 1964, where he still holds the track record in the 220 yard dash with a time of 21.1 seconds. He was also a 3 time all-district and all-state tailback in high school. Tommy graduated from LSU in 1969, with a bachelor’s degree in sociology. While at LSU he was redshirted his freshmen year and was a starting player from 1965 until 1968. He played in the Sugar Bowl, Cotton Bowl and 1st annual Peach Bowl. Though he had several jobs, Tommy was an entrepreneur at heart. He opened the Sears Dealer Store in DeRidder, LA and the Blockbuster Video Store. Tommy and Dorothy were members of New Life Baptist Church. Tommy Allen was always very humble, loyal, and faithful in all that he did. He passed from this life on Tuesday, September 25, 2012, at his residence in DeRidder, LA.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Nichols Allen of DeRidder, LA, married 29 years; 3 sons, Mark Allen of DeRidder, LA, Mike Allen of Lake Charles, LA and Daniel McFarland of Hinston, LA; 3 daughters, Missy Williams of DeRidder, LA, Mindy Runge of Mansfield, LA and Angela Hickman of DeRidder, LA; 1 sister, Sandra Eschete of Lafayette, LA and 9 grandchildren. Any donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or New Life Baptist Church, 3177 Hwy 190 West, DeRidder, LA.
