Tom William Smith's Obituary
Tom Smith, 69, of Sugartown, LA, passed away on Monday, May 16, 2011, at his residence. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 20, 2011, at 2 P.M. at First United Methodist Church in DeRidder with Rev. Mike McLaurin officiating. Interment will follow in New Campground Cemetery, Sugartown, LA under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 19, 2011, from 5 P.M. until 9 P.M. at Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder, LA and resume on Friday, 11 AM until the time of the service at 2 PM at the church.
Tom was born on June 3, 1941, to Thomas Jessie Smith and Arley Mae Reese Smith in DeRidder, LA. He graduated from Sugartown High School and was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was a retired manager with AT&T in Dallas, TX and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of DeRidder, LA. Thomas was a member of the Sugartown, Sam Todd Masonic Lodge #182 , Shriners Habibi Temple in Lake Charles, LA, DeRidder Southwest Shriners Club, Royal Order of Jesters and DeQuincy Masonic Lodge #279.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Carla Smith of Sugartown, LA; two sons, Thomas Ray Smith of Talihina, OK and Michael Sean Smith of Abilene, TX; three daughters, Tammy Lynn Valadez of Denton, TX, Michelle Susan Smith of Mexico City Beach, FL and Jennifer Ann McCrory of Austin, TX; one brother, Dennis Smith of Palestine, TX; two sisters, Virginia Self and Glenda Ellender both of DeRidder, LA; thirteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
