Thomas Howard White's Obituary
Thomas Howard White, age 97, of Leesville, Louisiana passed away on Monday, February 20, 2023. He was born in Harrisburg, Arkansas on October 25, 1925. Because of his health, Mr. White spent his last few years in Meridianville, Alabama with his daughter but his heart never left Vernon Parish.
He is survived by his daughter Barbara Gannon, grandsons Vernon Spurgeon (Carrie) and Roger White, II (Angie) as well as many great grandchildren and loving nieces and nephews.
Mr. White was always a very hard working man with a varied work history. As a young teenager during WWII he was drafted into the Marine Corp for a short period of time before being medically discharged due to having typhoid fever. During his adult life he primarily worked as an electrical lineman and supervisor. He was also a factory worker in Michigan, a logger in the State of Washington, a sheet metal supervisor in Arkansas and an off shore oil rigger in New Orleans. He finished out his working years as a truck driver for Leesville Lumber and Lambert Oil Company.
When he retired he spent over 40 years living on Vernon Lake where he enjoyed fishing, preparing crawfish/crab boils and woodworking. Most of his family and friends have one of his birdhouses or swings. Mr. White also enjoyed his many years of charitable work as a Shriner.
Mr. White was a long time member of Good Hope Baptist Church in Anacoco where he was loved by so many in the congregation.
Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday, February 25, 2023 from 12:00pm to 1:00pm with funeral services to follow, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home in Leesville, La.
