The burial will follow in the Canaan Cemetery, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.
Thelma, the daughter of Floyd and Ora Jane Geren, was born in Independence, KS. She passed away on Friday, December 16th, in Leesville, LA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 46 years, Joe H. Teasley; son, Floyd Milton Teasley; brothers, Leon Geren and Kenneth Lee Geren; sister, Marjorie Williams; and daughter-in-law, Geraldine Teasley.
Thelma’s history in Vernon Parish began in January of 1962 when she accompanied her loving husband, a U.S. Army staff sergeant, to his newly assigned duty station, Fort Polk. After Sgt. Teasley’s two tours to Vietnam, they decided to make Vernon Parish their home. Then the outgoing Joe and the meek and soft spoken Thelma continually opened their hearts and home to their new friends of Vernon Parish. This heartfelt relationship touched the lives of hundreds of people. From the annual Teasley crawfish boil to the bluegrass gospel and country music get-togethers, everyone was always welcome and no one left a stranger. There you would always look around and find sweet “Ma Ma” smiling, cooking, serving, and visiting with their host of friends. Most of all, you would find her holding, hugging, or caring for her favorites…her grandbabies! She was unanimously voted the “best grandmother in the world” by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren!
Thelma loved going to church, family reunions, baking, crocheting, working puzzle books, gospel music, reading, and going to yard sales. She will forever be remembered for her big heart and selfless giving and doing for others.
She is survived by her children, James H. and wife Cindy Teasley, Rodney Teasley, Becky and husband Donald Wayne Jeane, all of Leesville, and Vonna and husband Eddie San Nicolas of Anacoco; siblings, Bertha Cutsinger of Inman, KS, Jimmy Geren, Sue Robertson both of McPherson, KS, Alven Geren of Windom, KS, and Patricia King of Salina, KS; 8 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren.
