Susan Prickett's Obituary
Susan Cottrell Prickett, 81, died peacefully on October 21, 2022 in Leesville, Louisiana.   Susan was born in Hickory, North Carolina and lived with her parents, older brother David and younger sister Martha.  Always interested in theatre and fine art, Susan participated in many community theatre productions while in high school and as a drama major attending Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina.  She also studied at the famous Flat Rock Playhouse in Flat Rock, North Carolina. Susan graduated from Lenoir Rhyne College in Hickory with a Bachelor’s degree in Deaf Education.
Susan married Bill Prickett in 1968. They lived in many locations while Bill was employed as Dean of Students, and Superintendent of Schools for the Deaf and Blind.  Susan made each new home warm and inviting and loved having family and friends visit. They took full advantage of all that these locations had to offer.  Their last posting was in Baton Rouge, LA at the School for the Deaf and Blind, and after Bill retired they made their home in Baton Rouge.
Susan was a lover of nature and animals.  She cared for many rescue cats and dogs, and especially loved her Arabian Lee and mare Starlet.  Susan lived with Multiple Sclerosis for over 40 years.  She never let it stop her from doing what she wanted to do.  She enjoyed sailing, therapeutic horseback riding, and exploring the cuisine and cultures of the places they lived throughout their 52 years of marriage.
Susan is predeceased by her parents Sue and Walter Cottrell, husband Bill, and brother David Cottrell.
She is survived by her sister Martha Coffield and husband David of Williamsburg, VA, niece Samantha Bussert, and nephew Stephen Cottrell, both of Ohio. , brother in law Hugh Prickett and wife Jean of Jacksonville, FL.
The family would especially like to thank her brother in law Jerry Prickett and wife Ruthie of Anacoco, LA for the care, love and attention shown to Susan during her later years.
A private burial in Natchitoches, LA will take place in the future.
