Sudie Midkiff Stephens' Obituary
Funeral services for Sudie Midkiff Stephens will be held at 1 P.M. on Saturday September 12, 2020 in the Cooper Church Life Center with Pastor Edgar Evans officiating. Visitation begins at 11 A.M. at the church. Burial will follow in the Craft Cemetery at Savage Forks area under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville, LA. Please follow social distancing guidelines and wear a mask. Sudie was born June 11, 1926 in Vernon Parish LA and passed away Wednesday September 9, 2020 in Lafayette, LA at the age of 94 years 2 months and 29 days. She resided in the Pickering Vernon Parish area from birth until age 74 and then moved to Lafayette, LA with the family where she resided for the last 20 years. Sudie graduated from Pickering High School as salutatorian of her class and furthered her education by attending night classes to become a Bookkeeper. Her employment history includes the family Sawmill Business, Farm Bureau Insurance, Walters Sheet Metal and lastly Culotta McKee Hardware. She was a member of Cooper Baptist Church. She enjoyed both her Ladies Sunday school class and her family. She was a Maw Maw to many. She was preceded in death by her husband Carl C. Stephens and Grandson Edwin Blake Stephens and all except one sibling. Left to cherish her memory are her sons and daughters in law William Horace “Steve” Stephens and Kathy of Foley, AL, Derrel W. Stephens and Linda of Texarkana, TX, Waymon “Keith” Alsup and Melissa of Nauvoo, AL and Daughter and Son in Law Carolyn “Carol” Stephens Overbey and Dan of Lafayette, LA. Sister and Brother in Law Comalea “Bea” Smart and Charles of Anacoco, LA. She had 9 Grand Children Michael “Jeffrey” Stephens, Cody Stephens, Sara Stephens Carr, Rustin Stephens, Brad Alsup, Delisha Alsup Sims, Jessica Overbey, Mark Overbey and Stephanie Overbey. She also had 13 Great Grand Children and a host of extended family and friends. The family of Sudie Stephens request in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to St Judes Children Hospital or the Shriners Childrens Hospital and invest in our next generation or to your favorite charity in her honor. The family would also like to express their appreciation to each of you for the sympathy and love shown throughout the years and at this difficult time. Your presence is a comfort and your continued prayers and support are welcome.
