Rev. Steve N. Shebs' Obituary
Funeral services for Rev. Steve Shebs, 60, of Leesville will be 11:00 AM Thursday, May 14th, at the Cornerstone Baptist Church off of Jean Chapel Road in Leesville. The Rev. Stan Skirloff and Rev. Darren Martin will be officiating. The burial will follow in the Central LA Veterans Cemetery. Friends may visit Wednesday from 5pm until 7pm at the church.
Rev Shebs, oldest of three children, the son of Theodore and Janice O'Connor Shebs, was born Oct 13, 1954 in Palo Alto, CA. He went home to his Lord and Savior on the 8th of May.
He graduated from Oregon State University in 1976 with a degree in Business Administration and was commissioned into the US Army upon graduation. He served at numerous duty stations including Fort Carson, CO where he met his wife Brenda.
When his Lord called him to preach he attended Baptist Bible College for 2 years. He was called as the first pastor at Cornerstone Baptist Church of Leesville where he served faithfully for over 31 years. In his early years of ministry he also attended McNeese State University and received his MBA.
During the time of his ministry he saw numerous men surrender to preach, and he contributed greatly to their training. Pastor Shebs had a huge heart for mission work and went on several mission trips to Europe, India, and Mexico. He also loved prison ministry and preached in prisons all over Louisiana and East Texas.
Most importantly, he loved the Lord with all his heart, mind and strength. He never missed beginning his day with Bible reading and prayer. His life was dedicated to serving God and doing His will.
Pastor Shebs is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 33 years, Brenda Shebs, his six children, Travis Shebs of Columbia, NC., Bradley Shebs of Avella, PA., Wesley Shebs, Mary Shebs, Anthony Shebs, and Samuel Shebs; sister, Sharon English-Gibson and her husband Rick Gibson of San Jose, CA, and his sister-in-law Laurie Shebs of Henderson, NV. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Richard.
