Shelby Jean Cooley's Obituary
Shelby Jean Cooley entered peacefully into rest on Thursday, November 18, 2021, at the age of 84 years, 4 months and 11 days, at the Rosepine Retirement Center with her family by her side. Shelby was born on Wednesday, July 7, 1937 in DeRidder, LA to Alfred “Huey” Bailey, Sr. and Gladys Whitaker Bailey.
Visitation will be on Saturday, November 20, 2021, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at Friendship Baptist Church located at 1300 LA-26, DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 21, 2021, with visitation starting at 9:00 AM and service will begin at 10:00 AM, at the church with Rev. Johnny Johnson, Pastor of Friendship Baptist Church, and Bro. Tim Cooley officiating. Interment will follow at Whitaker Cemetery in DeRidder. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder.
Shelby was a dedicated worker for God. A lifelong member of Friendship Baptist Church where she was the church pianist, church custodian, and church clerk for many years.
Shelby met and married the love of her life Kelby C. Cooley on August 25, 1955 and spent 41 years together. She loved her flowers and made sure her lawn was always mowed. She found joy in babysitting children, especially her grandchildren. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her, especially her family.
Left to cherish her memory are her six children, Kaylon Jones and husband Tom of Longville, LA, Rhonda Cooley and husband Tim of DeRidder, LA, Byron Cooley and wife Tonia of DeRidder, LA, Donette Calcote of DeRidder, LA, Karlos Cooley and wife Karlene of DeRidder, LA, and Kerry Cooley and wife LeeAnn of DeRidder, LA; her brother, Huey Bailey, Jr. and wife Kathleen of Grant, LA; fourteen grandchildren, Teryan Warnock, Sarah Bogard, Caleb Cooley, Jessica Ford, Kirby Cooley, Brady Calcote, Logan Calcote, Karson Cooley, Karter Cooley, Jake Cooley, Cash Cooley, Kelcie Thomassee, Hagen Cooley, and Hadlien Cooley; nine great-grandchildren, Victoria Warnock, Annalee Warnock, Ethan Bogard, Emmett Bogard, Everly Bogard, Sawyer Ford, Maggie Ford, Teagen Cooley, and Sutton Cooley; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents, Huey and Gladys Bailey; husband, Kelby Cooley; two sisters, Myreline Monroe and Vera Moses; brother, Vernon Bailey; daughter-in-law, Marlanea Cooley; son-in-law, Buster Calcote.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Caleb Cooley, Kirby Cooley, Brady Calcote, Logan Calcote, Karson Cooley, Karter Cooley, Jake Cooley, Cash Cooley, and Hagen Cooley.
