SGM Ernst Henry Poll Sr.'s Obituary
Funeral services for Ernst Henry Poll Sr., 86 of Leesville, will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 in the Trinity Lutheran Church of Leesville with Pastor Kermit Bostelman officiating. Burial will follow in the Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Leesville.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 27, 2021 from 5:00 P.M– 8:00 P.M at Labby Memorial Funeral Home in Leesville.
Ernst Henry Poll Sr. was born on June 23, 1935 to Alfred and Johanna Poll at Gillett, Arkansas. He passed away on July 21, 2021 in Leesville.
Ernst spent the first sixteen years of his life in and around Gillett. He attended St. Paul Lutheran School through the 7th grade and then moved into the public school system. In 1951 Ernst traveled to Litchfield, Nebraska for a job which did not work out; however, Ernst was then hired by Mr. Frank Hervert Jr. of Ravanna, Nebraska. Mr. Hervert was a farmer but also operated a well drilling and plumbing business. Ernst remained with the Hervert family until 1957. Ernst graduated from Ravenna High School in 1954. Ernst was drafted in the United States Army in 1957 where he served for 23 years. Ernst served at Ft. Hood, TX, Fort Meade, MD, Fort Huachuca, AZ and Fort Polk, LA. Ernst also served a tour with the Aviation Systems Command in St. Louis, MO and the Military Dept. at Northeast Louisiana State College (ULM) in Monroe. Overseas Ernst served a tour in Korea, two in Vietnam and three in Germany. While serving with the Military Dept at Northeast Ernst met and married his wife, Shirley. Ernst retired from the Army in July 1980. After retirement, Ernst attended the local Vo-Tech and studied Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration. Upon completion of this course in 1982 Ernst was then employed at Fort Polk with the Directorate of Public Works as a Heating Equipment and then as a material Expeditor. Ernst retired from Civil Service in October 1998. Ernst then worked for several years for TRW and Cubic. Ernst was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Leesville.
Ernst was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Johanna Poll, two sisters Marion Waller and Virginia Wilmoth and a brother Darwyn Poll.
Left to cherish his memory is his spouse: Shirley Poll, daughters: Teresa Williams and her husband Gerry Williams of Leesville, Johanna Baker and her husband Randall Baker of Leesville, sons: Ernst Poll Jr. and his wife Dolores Poll of Houston, TX, Robert Poll and his wife Chrisite Poll of Princeton, NC. Brothers: Gerald Poll of Heth, AR, Dwayne Poll of Hernando, FL, special friends: Lawrence and Adarene Miigerl of Ravanna, Nebraska, grandchildren: Christopher Poll, Virginia Adams, Christian Baker, Faith Poll, step grandchildren: Stevie Spears, Brianna Pina-Jaramillo and seven great grandchildren.
