Sarah Rucker Welborn's Obituary
Funeral services for Sarah Rucker Welborn, 87, of DeRidder, will be at 10 AM, Saturday, March 22, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Michael McLaurin and Rev. George Lee Glass officiating. The burial will follow in the Hopewell Cemetery under the direction of the Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder.
Visitation with the family will be from 8:00 AM until service time in the church, Saturday March 22nd.
Mrs. Welborn was born January 30, 1921 in Bowman, Georgia and entered Eternal Rest March 18, 2008 at the Autumn Care Facility in Marion, North Carolina. She was a graduate of Bowman High School and the University of Georgia, with a degree in English Education. She retired from the Beauregard Parish School System having taught 24 years at Merryville High School and DeRidder High School. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of DeRidder, having served within many of the church's internal organizations, the Thursday Study Club and the Order of the Eastern Star, Priscilla Chapter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, C. C. Welborn, her parents Mr and Mrs Luke Rucker, and two brothers, James H. Rucker and William Martin Rucker. She is survived by her daughter, Glynda Dean and husband Frank Dean of Marion, NC; one son, John R. Welborn and wife, Dana of DeRidder; one sister and best friends Hazel Rhodes of Rock Hill, SC; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
The family has requested that memorial donations be made by friends to the church, cemetery fund or charity of their choice.
