Sam Sims' Obituary
Funeral services for Sam Sims will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday October 13, 2008 in the First United Pentecostal Church in Hornbeck, Louisiana with the Rev. Steve Lora officiating. Burial will follow with Military Honors at the Prewitt’s Chapel Cemetery in Hornbeck under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.
Mr. Sims, 76, of Hornbeck, passed away on October 10, 2008 after a lengthy illness, in his home surrounded by his family.
He was born March 20, 1932 in Zwolle, La to Jesse Samuel and Ina Allie Sims. He joined the U.S. Army in 1948 at age 16 and proudly served his country for 20 years. He was a veteran of the Korean war and retired from the Army in 1968. After retiring, he located his family in Hornbeck to be near his parents and Toledo Bend and Vernon Lake. He was an avid sportsman who had a great love of fishing. Just about every early morning he could be found on Vernon lake in his small paddle boat with a fishing pole casting in his favorite spots. When it came to fishing he couldn’t be beat.
He is survived by: Wife of 55 years – Helen Sims of Hornbeck; Seven Daughters – Debbie (Jerald) Sayers of Rock Hill South Carolina, Becky (Glen) Poarch of Hornbeck, La., Martha (Walter) Hagan of Dolph, Arkansas, Mary Lou (Albert) Shelton of Cottonwood, La., Marie (Stan) Huntington of Simpson, La., Katherine Sims of Hornbeck, La., and Anna (Ray) LaBlanc of Hornbeck, La.; Two Sisters – Ruth Crumley of Lawton, Ok., and Ann Sims of Shreveport, La.; 16 Grandchildren and 20 Great Grandchildren
Mr. Sims was preceded in death by his parents – Jesse Samuel and Ina Allie Sims; One Brother – Maurice Lloyd (Buddy) Sims; and One Sister – Irma Loraine Simons
