Funeral services for S. A. “Sam” Wagnon, Jr., 84, of Longville, LA, will be held at 10 A.M., Friday, September 3, 2010, in Longville Baptist Church in Longville, LA, with Rev. Stuart Graves officiating. Burial will follow in Dry Creek Cemetery in Dry Creek, LA, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder. Visitation will be from 5 P. M. until 9 P.M., Thursday, September2, 2010, and from 9 A.M. until time of the service, Friday, September3, 2010, in the church. Mr. Wagnon passed away Monday, August 30, 2010, in his residence in Longville.
Born in Bonami, Louisiana, “Sam” was the son of Samuel Arthur and Faith Hazel Hanchey Wagnon, Sr. He was a lifelong resident of Longville and a member of Longville Baptist Church. He was retired from Boise Cascade in DeRidder where he was a purchasing agent. He was also formerly employed by Brown and Root. He was a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps and served during WWII in the Pacific Theater in Saipan, Tania and Iwo Jima. He also served during the Korean War. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 238 and Eastern Star Chapter 232.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Norma Wagnon of Longville; one son, Carl John Burmeister and wife Patricia of Longville; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Jason, Joni, Kris, Janelle and Stacy; and twelve great grandchildren.
