Roger G. Morris' Obituary
Funeral services for Roger G. Morris, 70, of Leesville, Louisiana will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 12, 2012, at First United Methodist Church in Leesville with Rev. Hawk Hamilton and Glen Henley officiating. Burial will follow in the Lewis Cemetery in DeRidder, LA, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.
Visitation will be held from 5 pm - 8 pm, Wednesday, January 11th at the Church and then 10 am until service time Thursday, January 12th, at the church.
Roger, the son of Eldridge and June Morris, Sr. was born on October 1, 1941. He passed away, Tuesday, January 10th in Shreveport, LA
Roger graduated from DeRidder High School in 1960 and then attended LSU until he joined the US Reserve Marine Corp where he served for six years. Roger owned and operated Morris Tire Service until 2003 and currently was a broker for Morris Real Estate (Remax) in Leesville.
Mr. Morris served the city of Leesville as a past Councilman at Large and also as mayor for one term. He was very active in the community for he was a Past President of the Leesville-Vernon Chamber of Commerce, Past President of the Leesville Lions Club, Lifetime member of the Louisiana Lions League for Crippled Children, former member of the Leesville Jaycees, Past president for the Leonidas Polk Chapter, Association of the US Army, He also was a member of the First Untied Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by parents
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Margie Morris, of Leesville, brothers Eldridge “Junior” and wife Diane Morris and Jim and wife Patricia Morris and sister Brenda and husband Delbert Hollis all of DeRidder, his beloved pets Bambi and Katy along with numerous nephews, nieces and extended family.
Memorial donations are to be made to the First United Methodist Church or the Louisiana Lions Crippled Children Camp.
