Robert Dean “R. D.” Ray was born at home on December 15, 1939 in Kisatchie, LA and also passed from this life at his home in Kisatchie surrounded by his family on July 27, 2023.
R. D. married the love of his life, Melba Jean Bolton, on February 7, 1957 just a few months before they graduated from high school. R.D. was a hard worker from the beginning. They moved to Texas shortly after high school where he began a lifelong career in various forms of electrical work. Two years after they married, they welcomed their daughter, Cynthia Lynn, into this world. They soon moved back to Louisiana where he continued working for the Cleco Electric Company. One of his hobbies included TV repair which turned into a business in his back yard. He missed working with electrical and eventually went back to work with Red Simpson Electrical Company and several other electrical companies. In August of 1979, R.D. and Jean brought a sweet little girl, Misty, home to join their family. R.D. opened his own substation contracting business Little Chief Construction and even helped at Epcot Center in Florida.
He was a long time member of the Kisatchie Baptist Church where he was baptized as a young boy. He loved his work, tearing things apart and trying to put them back together, gardening, music, and more than anything, he loved providing for his family. The highlight of his life were his 5 grandkids. He loved teaching them his tricks, singing with them on various instruments, and telling them his stories of family history.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jean; his daughter, Misty; his parents; and his 3 sisters.
R.D. Is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Lynn Oliver and husband, Steve; his grandchildren, Joshua Oliver and wife Jennifer, Chance Oliver, Cassidy Lopez and husband Derek, Halie Oliver, Katie Hodgson and husband Jacob; his great-grandchildren, Connor Oliver and Everly Lopez; and multiple nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
