Robert J. Rathburn
Beauregard Parish Resident Robert Rathburn passed away Sunday, May 29, 2016, in the Rosepine Nursing home. Before his illness Robert was an active member of the Louisiana Cattleman’s Association as well as several other organizations. He was a graduate of DeRidder High School. Robert was also well traveled, collecting friends and stories from all over the world where his work as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic and Supervisor took him. He always called Beauregard Parish his home base and returned full time upon his retirement to grow cattle, hay, and trees. He was an avid scouter attaining the rank of Eagle Scout with the Order of the Arrow.
Robert is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jane, his parents Macon and Mamie as well as four children; Ross Rathburn and his wife Connie, Anna Carson and her husband Randy, Richard Rathburn and his wife Jeri, and Melinda West and her husband Roger. He also leaves behind his grandchildren and step grandchildren; Ashley, Morgan and her husband Tim, Ariel, Dakota, Ryan, Alex, Rachel, Owen, Kdee, Chance, Nick, and Felicia. He had one great grandson, William and one on the way.
Services will be Thursday, June 2, 2016, at 10 AM in Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in DeRidder, LA, with Rev. Randy Edwards and Rev. Barbara Einsel officiating. Burial will follow in Beauregard Cemetery in DeRidder under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 1, 2016, at 6 PM until 9 PM and Thursday, June 2, 2016, from 9 AM until the service at the funeral home. Robert’s family requests that donations be made to the Beauregard 4-H Shooting Program, Southwest Louisiana Methodist Children’s Home or the Louisiana Cattlemen’s Foundation Scholarship Fund.
