Robert Benecke's Obituary
Robert Benecke, age 79, of Hornbeck, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 8, 2026. Born on September 29, 1946, Robert lived a life marked by service, loyalty, generosity, and deep love for his family and country.
Robert proudly served in the United States Army for 20 years. Though he retired from military service, those who knew him best would say the military never retired from him. He carried with him the discipline, strength, honor, and dedication that defined his years of service throughout the rest of his life.
He was a man who truly enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. Robert loved traveling in his RV, discovering new places and making memories along the way. He had a passion for beer brewing and enjoyed learning and talking about the history behind it. He could often be found on his iPad shopping online, keeping up with current events, and sharing his thoughts on politics with anyone willing to listen.
More than anything, Robert will be remembered for his heart. He was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back to help someone in need. If you called on him, he would show up — no questions asked. His dependability, kindness, and willingness to help others left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Robert was preceded in death by his father, Fred Benecke; his mother, Pearl Willis; his brothers, Larry Choate and Tim Choate; and his son, Steven Benecke.
He leaves behind his beloved family to cherish his memory: his wife, Myong Benecke; his sisters, Janet Tilton and Tammy Nunez; his children, Jay and Sarah Romine; Alesha and Jason Alford; Jack and Jerrica Benecke; and his treasured grandchildren, Orrin Romine, Isabella Romine, Paxton Romine, Cruiz Romine, Tyler Alford, Brianna Benecke, and Brooklyn Benecke.
Robert’s legacy of service, love, and unwavering support for those around him will never be forgotten. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at 12:00 P.M. at Labby Memorial Funeral Memorial Funeral Home in Leesville. Burial will follow in the Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery.
