Richard A. Young's Obituary
Richard Young entered peacefully into rest on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at the age of 89 years, 8 months and 0 days, at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital with family by his side. Richard was born on Friday, April 22, 1932 in Black River Falls, Wisconsin to Oswald George Young and Isla Harriett Hjerleid Young.
Visitation will begin Thursday, December 23, 2021, from 2:00 PM until Funeral Service begins at 3:00 PM, in Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 2110 Hwy 171, DeRidder, Louisiana, with Rev. Danny Wilson, Pastor of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be private. Funeral Services under the care and direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder.
Richard served our country in the United States Army. He graduated with a degree in forestry from Louisiana Tech and retired from Boise Cascade as a Forrester.
Richard was a devoted husband and father. He coached little league baseball and was a scout leader for his sons and followed his daughter to every track meet and was their number one cheer leader. He loved spending hours and hours outdoors hiking and enjoying all that nature has to hold. Enjoyed spending time in the cabin he built near Mount Magazine. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him, especially his family.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Cassandra Young of DeRidder, LA; sons Richard Young, Jr. and wife Karen of Elizabethtown, KY, John Stephen Young and fiancé Scherrey Polzin of Cabot, AR; daughters Lauri Young Rentz of Walker, LA, Christine Adams of Sugartown, LA; and grandchildren Ashley Young, Paige Young, Nathaniel Bailey, and ChyAnne Bailey, stepson Curtis Adams and his children Saoire Adams, Aiden Adams and Deglean Adams.
Preceded in death by his parents, Oswald George Young and Isla Harriett Hjerleid Young; wife Betty McCann Young, and brother Gerald Young.
