Richard Mason Ross' Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Richard Mason Ross (Mason) announce his sudden passing on Saturday, August 14th, 2021, at the age of 42.
Even though Mason was taken too soon, he lived an extraordinary life in many ways, with many friends that loved him. Growing up as a young man, this blonde haired, green eyed boy captured our hearts and imaginations with his outgoing personality and smile, which he also used to find his way out of mischievous endeavors. He had a love and passion for swimming and snow skiing, to which he shared a deep connection with his father, who spent many hours instructing him in both. He was a talented swimmer with the Youth Ft. Polk/Leesville Swim Team (FLIP), and grew up playing other youth sports such as basketball, baseball, and soccer with his lifelong friends. As the years went on he was never lacking in confidence, even if it was something out of his element like performing in a Dinner Theater event at Anacoco High School, he was always up to the task when asked. He eventually went on to graduate from Leesville High School and was a proud Wampus Cat Alumni.
In the years that followed, like many of us Mason struggled to navigate the waters of life. However, each time the depths would pull him down, he would swim as hard as he could to reach the surface again. To combat times of doubt, uncertainty, and strife he relied on his faith, his friends, and his family to help him. He constantly worked hard to better himself, taking up useful hobbies such as wood working and carpentry, and even going back to college and graduating from McNeese State University with a Bachelor of Science in Management. Following graduation Mason went on to work for his family’s firm (Ross Investments) where he was later named Vice-President.
In the end, Mason will always be best known for having a warm personality and a passionate heart. Over the years he made many friendships that he maintained over the span of decades, and not just with humans. He was a true animal lover, a passion he shared with his mother as they cared for many dogs over the years, in fact if you ever went to Mason’s house you were often greeted by an army of dogs usually with first names beginning with the letter “S”.
Mason was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Deloy C. and Louise L. Ross: maternal grandmother, Gloria Dell Penton Toney: Aunt, Darla Toney Tuck. He is survived by his parents Richard D. and Debbie Ross, Brother Tanner C. Ross (Patricia): Nieces and Nephews, Tristan Lane Johnson, Lillian Rose Ross, and Vivian Louise Ross.
The Ross Family would like to thank everyone for the outpouring love and support shown to them during this difficult time. The family has chosen cremation so that Mason’s ashes may be close to the crashing waves of the sea he loved so much.
A Memorial Service honoring the life of Mason will be held at a later date. Memorial Donations in Mason’s name may be made to the following:
