Richard Lee "Dickey" Whitford's Obituary
Funeral services for Richard Lee “Dickey” Whitford, 87, of Pitkin, LA, will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2012, 10:00 AM at Highland Church of God in Christ Mennonite, DeRidder, LA. Officiating will be Brother Larry Schmidt and Brother Chester Johnson. Burial will follow in Highland Mennonite Cemetery, DeRidder, LA, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder.
Visitation will begin on Friday, August 3, 2012, 2:00 PM, at Labby Memorial Funeral Home, DeRidder, LA and Saturday, 9:00 AM at the church until the time of the service.
Mr. Whitford was born on June 27, 1925, to Thomas Whitford and Helen Tilton Whitford in California. He lived most of his life in Vernon Parish, LA. He was a communications operator in the Merchant Marines during WWII and a veteran of the United States Air Force. He formerly owned a saw mill, farmed, a free lance writer and worked in the oil field. Mr. Whitford was a member of the Highland Church of God in Christ Mennonite. He passed from this life on Thursday, August 02, 2012, at his residence in Pitkin, LA.
Survivors include sister, Valera Josephine Lyles of California; niece, Betty Ann Brooks of Fredericksburg, VA; cousins, Donna Rose Tilton Able and husband Perry of Pitkin, LA, Richard Irvin Tilton and wife Cathy of DeRidder, LA and Lena Boggs and husband Webster of Sugartown, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Thomas Jackson Whitford, sister, Patricia Ann Whitford.
