Funeral Service for Richard C. “Dick” Baird, 97, of Lafayette, LA will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, August 13, 2015, at Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder, LA with Rev. Keri Ifland officiating. Burial will be at Beauregard Cemetery. Dick passed from this life on Monday, August 10, 2015, at Lafayette, LA. Visitation will be from 5 PM til 9 PM Wednesday, August 12, 2015, and from 9 AM until time of the service, both to be held at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Baird of Lafayette, LA; son, Brett Baird of DeRidder, LA; daughter, Barbara Bos and husband Earl of DeRidder, LA; 2 grandchildren, Brooke and Richard Bos and 2 great grandchildren, Brock and Bayne Rose. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Downs Baird and brother, George Baird.
Dick was born on Thursday, February 14, 1918, at Warsaw, Nebraska to Claude and Jessie Baird. He moved to DeRidder, LA when he was 8 years old and lived most of his life. He had resided in Lafayette, LA for the past 8 years. He was retired from Crosby Chemical Company where he was an Operator and he also retired from the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Department where he served as Court Bailiff for over 20 years. Dick played professional baseball for the Detroit Tigers, St. Louis Cardinals as a pitcher. He proudly served in the United States Army during World War II in the South Pacific. He was an avid fisherman.
