Ralph L. Calhoun's Obituary
Funeral service for Ralph L. Calhoun, 89, of Longville, LA will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, March 21, 2014, at Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Norwood officiating. Burial will follow in Barentine Cemetery, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder, LA.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2014, 5:30 PM until 8:00 PM at Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder and Friday, 12:30 PM until the service at the church.
Ralph was born on Monday, December 8, 1924, to Joseph and Dorothey Legg Calhoun at Slagle, LA. He grew up in Hornbeck, LA where graduated from High School. He proudly served in the United States Navy as an aircraft mechanic. Ralph was a member and deacon of Memorial Baptist Church in Longville and he was the worship leader of music. Ralph was an exceptional musician, singer and he loved wood crafting. He was a Boy Scout leader in the Longville area for many years and retired from Mobil Oil Company where he was an operator for 32 years.
Ralph is survived by his wife of 64 years, Faye Ellis Calhoun of Longville, LA; son, Dudley Calhoun and wife Dee of Emory, TX; 2 daughters, Sharon Smith and husband Bill of Longville, LA and Sandra “Sam” Armer and husband Ronald of Carlyss, LA; 7 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and 1 great, great, grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Mitchell Kevin Calhoun, daughter, Cindy Lou Calhoun and a sister, Willavee Dean.
