Polly Faye Saffold's Obituary
Polly Faye Saffold 89, a beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2025, in Waukee, Iowa. Born on August 12, 1935, in Hornbeck, Louisiana to Francis Joseph "Red" Snell and Hattie Parker Snell, Polly lived a life rich with love and devotion to her family. She was a direct decedent of Dr. P.K. Snell, who was well known for riding his horse throughout Vernon Parish helping families care for their sick.
Polly was preceded in death by her cherished parents Francis Joseph “Red” Snell and Hattie Parker Snell; husband Louis Saffold and her brothers Rex Snell and Pat Snell.
She is survived by her two sisters: Betty Sue Prichard of Hornbeck, LA and Linda Kay Ellsworth of Des Moines, IA. She was married to Louis S. Saffold and they had three children. Her legacy continues through her children—Stephen Saffold of Hornbeck, LA; Lisa Linville and husband Nick of Salado, TX; Lynn Oswald and husband Scott of Waukee, IA—as well as four adoring grandchildren: Bryan Saffold; Savannah Rozga; Megan Oswald; Ashley Oswald. Polly also took great joy in being a great-grandmother to Nolan Saffold; Zoey Saffold; Mary Faye Rozga; Kamden Oswald. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephew and extended family members.
A woman who found beauty in the everyday moments of life, Polly had an unwavering passion for reading. Cooking was another way she expressed love— especially her biscuits. She was always prepared with makeup on for the next outing. She loved makeup so much she sold Avon. She approached each day ready to embrace whatever came next with grace.
Her father played an instrumental role in building Oak Grove Baptist Church—a place where faith flourished within their community—and it became a cornerstone for Polly’s own spiritual journey throughout life. The values instilled by both parents shaped the loving matriarch she became. Van Snell helped with the up keep on the church.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers include Nick Linville, Scott Oswald, Bryan Saffold, Jeff Ross, Joe Prichard & Gary Prichard. Honorary pallbearers are Daniel Rozga, Mike Ellsworth, Joe Ellsworth as well as Derrick DesJardins.
Funeral services will be held at Oak Grove Baptist Church on Monday morning at 11:00 A.M., officiated by Bro. Wayne Chance along with Bro. Brad Prichard & Bro. John Northway leading the celebration of Polly's remarkable life filled with laughter & love shared amongst family & friends alike during visitation hours Sunday evening from 5:00 P.M until 8:00 P.M.
