Peggy Jeane Firestine's Obituary
Peggy Jeane Firestine was born July 24, 1934, she joined her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at the wonderful age of 87 years.
Peggy was born and raised in Vernon Parish. The daughter of Joseph Harold and Hazel Wingate Jeane. Peggy attended Pickering School. She married Thomas Toney and raised three wonderful sons, Thomas Harold, Ronnie, and Kenneth Toney.
Peggy worked at West Department Store in Leesville. She moved to Shreveport and was employed and retired from Binghan-Willmette. As was her nature, she was not ready for retirement. She married her second husband Pete Firestine and the moved to Bonne Terre, Missouri. Peggy went to work for Bonne Terre Senior Center. It was here that she made a difference. The center was short staffed and did not offer vital programs for the senior community. Peggy wrote and sought state grants to promote meals, community awareness, prescription drugs at low cost or no cost to seniors. She attended nutritional seminars to provide the seniors with daily balanced meals, provided health seminars for seniors, for heart health, cholesterol screenings, and provided guidance on how to utilize and understand the emergency 911 system. Peggy was awarded Citizen of the Year by the Bonne Terre Chamber of Commerce.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Harold and Hazel Wingate Jeane; Her son, Thomas Harold Toney;, Her sister, Margie Bowen; Two brothers, Harold Wayne Jeane and Walter Nathaniel Jeane; Her first husband, Thomas Toney, and her second husband, Pete Firestine.
Peggy is survived by two sons, Kenneth (Callie) Toney of Leesville, and Ronnie Toney of Pineville, LA; Brother: Don Jeane of Leesville; Sisters: Joyce (Joe) Serhan of Colorado, Marsha (Franklin) Ivester of Missouri, and Lynda (Ike) Garman of Leesville; Many loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and cousins.

A private family graveside service will be held.
